Franciscan Health Continues Weekly Farmers Market this Summer on South Side of Indianapolis
Franciscan Health will be hosting a weekly farmers market again this year on the south side of Indianapolis. The farmers market provides nutritious options for locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables to the community.
The farmers market will take place on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Franciscan medical office building located at 5230 East Stop 11 Road in Indianapolis, across the street from the Franciscan Health Indianapolis hospital campus. The farmers market will run weekly from June 4 through September 24.
New this year, the Community Health Improvement team from Franciscan will be operating the farmers market. The group hosts numerous community events throughout the year and operates the Fresh Start Market Pantry in Greenwood.
The farmers market features fresh fruits and vegetables that are grown in Central Indiana and a wide array of other products that are locally sourced.
“We are very excited to continue the tradition of the Franciscan farmers market on the south side of Indianapolis,” said Stacey Fink, community health specialist at Franciscan Health. “The vendors are always very enthusiastic and enjoy getting to meet our neighbors from the community who frequent the farmers markets. Having the option to purchase healthy items, especially produce, is a great benefit to the community.”
Over the years, the farmers market, which started in 2016, has grown exponentially. It began as a small market with fruits and vegetables and now also features baked goods, arts and crafts, coffee, fresh flowers and soaps with vendors coming from across central Indiana. All vendors certified and licensed with the Marion County Board of Health.
