Franciscan Health Indianapolis Offers Produce Prescription Program

By Franciscan Health | | 4.10.26

Franciscan Health Indianapolis and Indy Hunger Network are continuing the Fresh Start Market Produce Prescription Program this spring, summer and fall. The program provides diet options for healthy eating as well as chronic disease management education and support.

The Produce Prescription Program is available to those who have pre- or existing chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or cancer. Participants must be referred by Franciscan Health physicians, screen positive for moderate to high food insecurity and complete a 6-week Cooking Matters course.

Those who participate in the Produce Prescription Program will receive monthly servings of fresh fruits and vegetables.

“We are looking forward to expanding the program this year with the addition of the summer and fall sessions,” said Stacey Fink, community health specialist at Franciscan Health. “It is vital for us to teach our neighbors in the local community about the importance produce plays in daily meal plans and how that benefits overall health. We have a great partner in Indy Hunger Network and are very thankful for all that they do. To be able to provide participants with fresh produce each month is key to the program being successful.”

Sessions of the spring portion of the Produce Prescription Program will run for six consecutive weeks each Monday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., beginning on April 6 and concluding on May 11.

The Produce Prescription Program will take place at Franciscan Health Family Medicine Residency, located at 5230 East Stop 11 Road in Indianapolis.

The Produce Prescription Program is made possible in part through donations from the Franciscan Health Foundation’s Food Insecurity Fund. For more information or to donate online click here or call (317) 528-6618.
