Franklin College Invites the Public to Attend Fall Chamber Concerts
The Franklin College Music Department will present two concerts in November inside the Clarence E. and Inez R. Custer Theatre. The theatre is on the first floor of Old Main, located on the corner of Monroe Street and Branigin Boulevard. Both concerts are free and open to the public.
The Instrumental Chamber Concert will be presented on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. Performances will feature woodwind, brass and percussion students. Performers are students of Lecturer of Music Theory and Applied Woodwinds Jonathan Rice, D.M.A., Band Director and Head of Brass Studio Randy Greenwell and Lecturer of Music Josh Torres, M.M.
While the concert is a gift to the audience, it has bonuses for the performers as well. “The students gain the experience of performing in front of others,” said Rice. “It fosters a deep sense of accomplishment. For many, performing can be stressful. The feeling of facing your fear and coming out on top is a feeling that is hard to beat.”
The Vocal Chamber Concert will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. The featured performers are students of Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Vocal Choral Activities Eric DeForest, D.M.A. Students will perform a variety of solos, duets and trios from different genres to showcase their talents.
“These concerts give them a chance to hone their performance skills. For many of the freshman, this will mark their first time singing as a soloist on stage… It is so rewarding to watch these young singers step on that stage and sing with all they have! They so often amaze themselves with their performances!” said DeForest.
