Franklin College will welcome six writers to campus for the Carlson-Stauffer Visiting Writers Reading Series on Thursday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. The local writers will read from their work and participate in a panel-style discussion about literary citizenship. The event will take place in the Henderson Conference Room, on the second floor of the Johnson Center for Fine Arts.

“In our creative writing classes, we teach not only the skills of the discipline but also the importance of literary citizenship beyond academia. We are excited to welcome six working writers who participate actively in the creative community of Indianapolis through public readings, facilitation of writing workshops, and editorial work on local literary magazines,” said Katie Burpo, M.F.A., assistant professor of English and creative writing.

The following writers will be featured on the panel:

  • Chris Carrier
  • Michelle Niemann
  • Autumn Pryor
  • Natalie Solmer
  • David Strange
  • Januarie York

The panel discussion is co-sponsored by the Carlson-Stauffer Visiting Writers Reading Series and the Apogee.

The Carlson-Stauffer Visiting Writer Series is made possible by a generous monetary gift from Franklin College alumni Margaret ’63 & Randy ’65 Riddle. The series – previously known as the Creative Writing Reading Series – is now named in honor of two retired Franklin College English professors, Kathy Carlson and Emily Stauffer. The series is organized by Professor Burpo.
