Meet Your Ambassador: Jodi Gilbert, GMI Corporation

1. When did you become an Ambassador?
   
   I became an Ambassador in January, 2024.
   
   
2. How has being an Ambassador been beneficial to you and/or your company?
   
   This is one of the reasons I wanted to be an Ambassador. I have enjoyed meeting new people and welcoming business owners to Johnson County. As a result of attending events and meeting these business owners, I have been able to introduce others in Johnson County to what GMI Corporation offers. As a company, we have been able to utilize some of the connections that have been made.
   
   
3. Why did you want to become an Ambassador?
   
   Much like above, I was wanting to engage with an organization where our company was one of the initial members and learn more about how we can promote and look for more business opportunities within the community. For me personally, I like to give back when I can, so sharing my experiences with others along with learning about all the businesses within Johnson County is enjoyable to me.
   
   
4. Do you have a favorite memory as an Ambassador?
   
   I would say I have several, but attending the annual picnic last year was fun as we had some exposure to Pickle Ball and it resulted in the first annual event for Aspire this year even though I didn’t get to attend this year. The other memories are the annual workshops for the Ambassadors to become reacquainted and share in some team building activities and developing initiatives for the upcoming year.
   
   
5. What advice do you have for professionals trying to connect with other professionals?
   
   Don’t be shy about who you are and what business you represent. Everyone has unique talents and interests, and it is important that we share those with others. Be open and honest in your conversations.
   
   
6. What is your favorite networking tip?
   
   Don’t be afraid to ask any questions. If you have a planned meeting with someone, do a little homework first to learn about their business to better enable a conversation-starter.
   
   
7. What was your first job?
   
   I started working right after HS as a mail clerk for Marathon Oil Company headquarters. I decided to attend college as a non-traditional student and eventually became an Accounting Clerk at Thomson Consumer Electronics.
   
   
8. Do you have any hobbies or something you like to do outside the business setting?
   
   I enjoy spending time with family, travelling, and playing golf.
   
   
9. What is your favorite vacation and why?
   
   I enjoy coupling vacations with some beach time and golf. My husband and I both like playing golf but also enjoy relaxing on a beach. An all-inclusive total relaxation vacation is the next best option.
   
   
10. What makes you a raving fan of Aspire?
    
    Aspire is a dynamic organization within the Johnson County Community. They provide a “warm welcome” to new businesses and show continued support with their networking events. They are constantly seeking information that can be shared to improve the overall business owner experience in Johnson County. The team members are passionate about the initiatives and keeping people involved.
